Today we are delighted to announce the jury for the 16th edition of the Sony World Photography Awards. Demonstrating a vast range of knowledge and expertise from many different areas of the photography industry, this year’s judging panel reinforces the World Photography Organisation and Sony’s commitment to driving the medium forward and enriching the creative community.
Mike Trow will be returning as the Chair of the Jury for the Professional competition and is joined by an impressive line-up of credible voices. Alongside Trow will be Mariama Attah, Head of Exhibitions at Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool, UK; Tandazani Dhlakama, Assistant Curator at Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town, South Africa; Elisa Medde, Editor-in-Chief, Foam Magazine, Amsterdam, Netherlands; Ioana Mello, Independent Curator and Photo Editor; Directing Member, FotoRio, Brazil; and Sujong Song, Senior Curator, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Republic of Korea.
Eric Schlosser, who is Art Director for Tbilisi Art Fair Georgia, will be judging the Open and Youth competitions.

The eight individuals making up this year’s jury will be reviewing your images once the competitions close giving you, and other dedicated photographers,s the international exposure they deserve. Keep a note of the deadlines relevant to you, as the dates for this year are slightly different from previous editions:
- The Student competition closes on 30 November 13:00 (GMT)
- The Open and Youth competitions close on 6 January 13:00 (GMT)
- The Professional competition closes on 13 January at 13:00 (GMT)
Judged anonymously, the vigorous process for each competition ensures the Awards spotlight the most exciting image-makers of our time. We’ll be updating you with interviews, insights and top tips from each judge over the next forthcoming months.
