The environment and our relationship to it have become the zeitgeist of today. Photographers around the world are using the power of the image to highlight current environmental changes. The World Photography Organisation wanted to celebrate the photographers documenting the fragility of our world and so created the Environment category for the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 Professional competition.
While these weekly blog posts are usually full of upbeat, celebratory work to make us smile, this Friday we thought it worth to put together a selection that will make us stop and think. Right now we're at a point where we could make some lifestyle changes once we start our new normal. We could all travel less, grow more and use less of the world's precious resources. Remembering those images entered before this year's competition, we take a look back at those asking us to question the future of our planet through striking imagery.
