Hi Alexandra. Please introduce your self and your photography
My real name is Alessandra, I am Italian but currently live and work in London. I started exploring photography during high school and, after studying fashion photography in Milan, I moved to Berlin for one year. There I experimented working on my aesthetic and fell in love with shapes and colours. I have been working on these elements since then, combining them with a study on textures and female beauty and sexuality. Living in London is teaching me how to incorporate the fashion aspect into my work, focusing always on the female body.
Tell us about the series of images we featured. Do you have a favourite, and why?
I don’t have an actual favourite from the series featured, I like each of them in a different way. I think about the energy I put into the images, the process and the differences yet similarities between all of them.
Why photography? What does the medium mean to you?
Photography is the curiosity of life to me. It’s a powerful means of communication, capable of transporting the viewer into a different dimension. Photographs depict reality and are yet only a subjective perspective, that’s probably what I love most about it.
Do you have a photographic philosophy?
I love combining an aesthetic with a concept and try working always on different levels of understanding when producing an image. My photographs reflect myself, my thoughts and dreams and at the same time project an ironic or surreal vision of life around me. An image according to me should be visually pleasing and charged of tension at the same time, a vision you feel compelled by and dazed.
From where do you draw inspiration?
My Inspiration comes mostly from contemporary art, cinema and performance. I love painting and sculpture, from the more classical renaissance to abstract expressionism and bauhaus. Nature is also a main source of inspiration, including the largest catalogue of colours and textures we could ever experience. Any curiosity is according to me an input to be developed.
