Bugs, insects and creepy crawlers

This morning a light mist appeared seemingly out of nowhere. The temperature felt a bit cooler, the air a bit more damp, and an unusual chill travelled through the bones of people on their early commutes - clear signs that it's now the 1 October and Autumn is in full swing!

With that, we kick off the spooky season with a special selection of six photographs depicting the underappreciated part of the animal kingdom - the bugs, the insects and the creepy crawlies. Whether you hold a special place in your heart for these peculiar beasts or instinctively look away in disgust, there's no denying that these little creatures offer a fascinating insight into their microcosm.

Don't forget to enter your photographs into the Sony World Photography Awards 2025 - whatever their subject, style or genre - for a chance to win $25,000, Sony digital imaging equipment, inclusion in the London exhibition and worldwide, inclusion in the annual book plus more!
