The 2016 Student Focus competition received applications from over 400 institutions from around the world, cementing its position as as one of the leading competitions for photography students. Many of the previously shortlisted and winning students have gone on to enjoy successful careers in the industry, working with a variety of publications and galleries worldwide.
This year, we asked students to respond with a single image to the initial brief “Millennials”. To decide the overall winner, 10 shortlisted photographers were then asked to submit a powerful photographic essay consisting of between 6-10 images based on the theme “For the Good”.
The shortlisted photographers were flown to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony, with the winner receiving €30,000 worth of Sony photography equipment for their university.
