Hi Pat. Please introduce your self and your photography to our audience
Hi, I’m Pat. I’m a photographer from Sydney, Australia. I shoot all kinds of scapes, architecture, street and share my experiences with the world.
Tell us about the series of images we featured. Do you have a favourite, and why?
They’re a diverse range. More than anything I think this series represents the varied style I have. I enjoy the freedom of being able to capture and present what I want, whenever I want. My favourite from that series is probably ‘Let the light guide you’. I shot this when I was first beginning in photography, but it still holds up to this day, in my opinion.
Why photography? What does the medium mean to you?
I started photography as a means for adventure. By day, I’m a User Experience designer - a career that doesn’t provide too much affordance for creativity and exploration - so photography for me is a great catalyst to get out there, experience new things, and share a moment in time from that experience where I can.
Do you have a photographic philosophy?
As a visual medium, I think the conversation of storytelling comes up all the time. How you do that in an image, what it means, whether you’re successful or not. I think ultimately, the best stories are the ones you don’t have to try to tell. They’re the ones that come through when you’re just being yourself, shooting what you want to shoot, in a way you want to shoot it. Above all, my photographic philosophy is to just be yourself, and don’t be scared of being vulnerable.
What continues to inspire you?
Art, physical experiences, adventure. Seeking inspiration from other photographers is great for composition and trends, but experiencing life to the fullest - that’s where I find the most inspiration.
