In Ukraine, the profession of a Railroad Traffic Controller and Saftey Officer still exists with about 80% of workers being female. Thinking few people pay attention to these women who they see from a passing train, standing still with a folded yellow flag, Sasha decided to create a series of portraits of the women she saw. This project is also an exploration of why these jobs still exist, given the almost entire automatisation of railroad crossings in the country. 'I was attracted by the anthropological and social roles played by the crossings and the workers. During the course of this project it occurred to me that the crossings are reassuringly permanent - they stand firm in the face of constant change.'
