Congratulations to Zak Elley from the United Kingdom!
Taken in November 2020, Zak collaborated with a make-up artist Rebecca Ross for this photograph. They created a look based on the TikTok logo colour scheme. TikTok was released in September 2016 and has since grown to 800+ million users worldwide. 'TikTok is a very new social media platform with explosive growth behind it. We wanted to put forward the aesthetic that is quite dark and bold to represent the growth, but at the same time, leaving darkness in the image for the amount of unseen things that lie on the social media site.'
'I'm very pleased to be shortlisted, let alone win the December Youth competition! This image is 1/6 of a series exploring Artificial Intelligence's role in the spread of misinformation and hate content about the LGBTQ+ community on social media. I want to say a massive thanks to the team that helped to produce this image alongside me. These people were: Rebecca Ross (Make-Up Artist), Candela Saenz Arana (Model) and Rocket Green (Studio Assistant).'
