Seven competitions, seven chances: this year’s format for the Sony World Photography Awards Youth competition gives you more opportunities to be the next Youth Photographer of the Year. Below are the winning and shortlisted entries from the September competition, where we asked photographers aged 12-19 years old to submit their best travel images.
Wanderlust, it’s a powerful feeling. Traveling expands and enriches our understanding of the world and one of the best ways to experience the planet is through the viewfinder. Be it immersing into local culture, marveling at spectacular sights or capturing the spirit of a place, we asked young photographers to submit their favorite images of their trips around the world. Judges were looking for photographs that were imaginative, engaging and highlighting the beauty and diversity of our world.
Congratulations to all successful photographers below. The winner will also be featured on our weekly newsletter, social media channels and be in the running for the Youth Photographer of the Year title (announced in April 2020).

Ram Kaushalyan, India, 17 years old
"People of Kaveripattinam are known for their tremendous portrayal of god. I took this photo at the Kaveripattinam festival. There was a crowd of more than 3000 in a 5km road. The area was very crowded and lots of people were painting their faces. I took this photo with one hand and my camera raised to the highest level possible."
