The Elefantentreffen is an annual winter motorcycle rally that takes place on the first weekend in February or on the last weekend in January, in the depths of the Bavarian Forest where snow is guaranteed and the temperatures are often below zero. No rooms and no facilities are provided for the bikers, just tents and straw, yet each year almost 5,000 riders from all over Europe participate. Despite frost, snow, mud and many differences in language, the motorcyclists spend three days round the campfire, drinking, making friends and helping one another in situations of difficulty. In 2016 the Elefantentreffen will celebrate its 60th anniversary
