Shortlist; Parallel Universe by Jorrit 't Hoen

Parallel Universe is part of an ongoing photo project in which I explore the role that nature plays in everyday life in the Netherlands. What does nature look like in our personal environment, workspace and the public domain? How do we relate to it? How do we express ourselves through nature? The people who invited me into their living rooms to make pictures have taken examples from some very exotic parts of nature and recreated them behind glass. While the original ecosystems they were derived from may suffer from pollution and climate change, these detailed, miniature versions are preserved, controlled and enjoyed by their owners.
