Shortlist, Somewhere Beside the Water by Liang Chen
"For centuries the Chinese have chosen to live near water, illustrating the fundamental connection between man and nature. However, in the last few decades - with the rapid development of the Chinese economy - the purity of some of these sources has been compromised. In some areas, the natural ecology has been disturbed or destroyed, and water contamination has become a serious issue.
Somewhere Beside the Water is an exploration of the complex relationship between humans and the environment - both harmonious and contradictory. By photographing water, I hope to arouse a sense of awe and encourage people to protect this source of life."
