Join innovative photographer Nadav Kander for this special conversation with William A.Ewing
Nadav Kander has gained international acclaim for his innovative approach to photography. To celebrate his most recognition as the 2019 recipient of the Sony World Photography Awards’ Outstanding Contribution to Photography, Kander will discuss his career to date with the esteemed esteemed curator, author and museum director William A. Ewing. The event takes place at The Edmond J Safra Lecture Theatre, King’s College London, The Strand with a 7pm start. The talk finishes at 8.30pm. There will also be a chance for the audience to ask questions.
Tickets cost £25 and include any time entrance to the 2019 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, where a substantial presentation of Kander’s work will be on show in the East Wing.

Biographies
Nadav Kander
Based in London, Nadav Kander is a photographer, director and artist best known for his portrait and fine art landscape imagery.
The artist’s work has been shown extensively around the world and his photographs are housed in several public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery (UK), Museum of Contemporary Photography (United States) and the Statoil Collection (Norway). Kander has published seven books, his most recent titled Dark Line - The Thames Estuary (2017).
Kander has received international recognition with accolades including the Honorary Fellowship Award from the Royal Photographic Society in 2015 and winning the Prix Pictet in 2009. Nadav Kander is represented by Flowers Gallery.
William A. Ewing
William A. Ewing is a curator, writer and museum director who has an almost 50-year career behind him, more or less equally balanced between work in the Americas and Europe, and in the past few years, he has had a surge of activity in Asia.
He was Director of Exhibitions at the International Center of Photography in the 1980s, and director of the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne between 1996 and 2010. He is now a curator with the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography and the Carène Foundation of Switzerland.
His interests in photography are wide, and he has written several dozen books and curated shows on the human body, landscape photography, dance, the portrait, fashion photography, Scandinavian photography, Polish photography, Chinese photography and much more. Such projects include thematic books but also monographs on such figures as Ray Metzker, Erwin Blumenfeld, Edward Steichen, Leonard Freed, Ernst Haas and most recently William Wegman.
His exhibitions have been shown at hundreds of museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou, the Jeu de Paume, the Serpentine, Barbican and Hayward galleries, the Kunsthaus Zurich, the Folkwang Museum, Essen, the Reina Sofia, Madrid, the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, and most recently, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing—among many others.
He is also the founder and director of the Todi Circle, a brainstorming seminar held each year in Umbria. For more than a decade he taught the history of photography at the University of Geneva, and he lectures widely today. In 2016 he was given the Award for Outstanding Service to Photography from the RPS, and he is an Officer of the French Republic’s Order of Arts and Letters.
