Today we are pleased to launch the second edition of the ZEISS Photography Award ‘Seeing Beyond, Meaningful Places’. One winning photographer will be awarded €12,000 worth of ZEISS lenses, €3,000 travel expenses to complete a dream photography project in the location of their choice plus a trip to London to attend the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards ceremony to recieve their prize.
Photographers have until February 7, 2017 to submit a series of 5-10 images responding to this year’s brief, which asks entrants to: “Look past the ordinary and the everyday to capture extraordinary aspects of the world we live in, by documenting the importance of one or several places that bare significance to each other.”
The award is free to enter and will be judged by the following industry experts:

- Claire Richardson - Picture Editor at Lonely Planet Traveller
- Sarah Toplis - Commissioning Executive, The Space
The winning series from the 2017 ZEISS Photography Award ‘Seeing Beyond’, plus selected entries, will be will be exhibited at Somerset House, London from April 21 - May 7, 2017 during the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition.

Last year’s winner
Tamina-Florentine Zuch, a student of photojournalism and documentary photography in Hannover, Germany, won last year’s overall prize with her epic series ‘Indian Train Journey’. Her images captured children sleeping in hammocks in train carriages, men risking their lives as they ‘surf’ railway cars, and exotic landscapes passing by.
