Each year, the Youth competition of the Sony World Photography Awards uncovers a brilliant crop of promising young photography stars. Previous winners and shortlisted Youth photographers have gone on to become professionals in their own right, and win many other awards around the world.
Below are just a small selection of some of our favourite Youth entries from this year's competition so far.
The Youth competition helps young photographers grow into the next stages of their careers. Judges are looking for "good composition, creativity and clear photographs."
The 2018 brief is titled 'Your environment', with the judges wanting to "view the world as seen through the eyes of young photographers. In one single image show the judges your environment. The brief should be understood in its widest sense. “Your environment” could be a photograph sharing your culture or religious celebration, highlighting of an issue close to home, a special family moment or a beautiful landscape of your surroundings."
