2nd Place, "Young People Who Beautify Death" by Luis Henry Agudelo Cano
The young men and women who prepare the dead acquire a knowledge so professional that they are capable of erasing the marks of death and closing wounds in such a way that the image that the deceased present to their loved ones is of peace, regardless of the circumstances of their death.
Their work is a type of spell against hatred, restoring flesh destroyed by barbarism, erasing grimaces of pain from the lips and eyelids, rescuing the smile from the rubble of blood and anguish. Through their efforts they salvage the beauty of the deceased, that those who love them can always remember them.
