September's pick of the pics winner and runners-up

To celebrate the wonderful array of images submitted to the Sony World Photography Awards 2021 Open competition, every week up until the competition deadline we're showcasing our favourite entries on the blog. Each month we select one lucky photographer who receives exposure on the World Photography Organisation social media channels and a 20 Image Bundle worth £39.95 (to enter more images into the Open competition). The two runners up receive a 10 image bundle to also enter more images into the Open competition! A big congratulations to September's successful entrants!

WINNER: Antonio Bernardino Coelho, Portugal, Object category

Congratulations Antonio Bernardino Coelho from Portugal for your well conceived image highlighting the destructive power plastics hold on the wildlife and natural world. We loved how the processing of your photograph complements the iridescent quality of the fish's scales. Well done!

Plastic in the oceans is now a huge problem that affects both the natural world and us. Microplastics are found in many animals that we eat.
