"Stuffy Shell" by Paul D'haese
Throughout history man has sought protection against the threatening outside world, and even today we build walls, fences, hedges around us. We create ‘safe havens’, to calm deeply rooted fears and insecurities that simultaneously provide the illusion of self-protection. “Stuffy shell” reflects on this human inclination. There is so much visual narrative to be found in the way we build, the way we domesticate the landscape and it results in uncanny images full of the bizarre, the surreal and the frightening; an unintended contradiction.
