Reuters, The Wider Image app for iPad

Reuters’ newest iPad app seeks to “bring Reuters photography and information to life through an entirely new interactive experience,” the international news provider announced this week. The Wider Image positions itself to allow both users and photojournalists to interact with news beyond the headlines alone.

Interactive formats, photographer profiles and new filtering methods grant app users a closer connection with the news they want, as well as exposes them to regions of the world and topics they may have never before known.

“The result is a signature experience on iPad which gives news photography greater impact, depth and interactivity,” Reuters’ Global Head of Multimedia Innovation Jassim Ahmad said.

The app launched with 100 stories, provided by 52 photographers, and plans to bring in additional reporters each month. “The public is interested in the voice of the photographer,” Ahmad said.

Photographers can share their own perspectives through their profiles, granting users a more personal connection to the people behind their news.

Updated daily, Reuters says the app will allow users to see their world in “a whole new dimension” by telling the story behind the camera lens.

The app is available for free in Apple's iTunes Store.
