2016 Sony World Photography Awards Grand Prize Winners Revealed

Following a record-breaking 230,103 submissions to its ninth edition, the winners of the world's largest photography competition, the Sony World Photography Awards, have been announced. 

All the winning images were part of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London from April 22 to May 8, 2016 (the exhibition has now closed)

Japanese photographer Kei Nomiyama was also announced as the Open Photographer of the Year and recipient of $5,000 (USD). Nomiyama, based in Matsuyama, Ehime, was selected for his stunning image “Enchanted Bamboo Forest”, a captivating and moody shot of the Luciola parvula fireflies circling in the forest.

Nomiyama's photograph was selected as the single best image in the world by a panel of judges chaired by Jael Marschner, former picture editor Time Out London / Sunday Times Travel. The photograph was selected from the 10 Open category winners announced on March 29, 2016. 

All the winning images were part of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London from April 22 to May 8, 2016 and were published in the annual Sony World Photography Awards book.
