fat man competition by pavel

Ethiopia, May 2010.Compatitors get ready for dance during fat man competition of the Bode tribe as they celebrate the 'Kel"(Bode New year Celebration). The Bode is the name of a semi-nomadic tribe leaving in the Omo valley, about 140 km from the Ethiopian
town of Jinka. Their homeland is remoted, located in the bush at the south west Omo valley. This year end celebration is a bit different than a usual new year celebration’s as the tradition is to feed young men from every Bode village. They are feeded only
with cow blood and milk during 3-6 months ( fatning process). They manage then to almost double their weight, being then ready for the competition.of the fattest man. On the competition day, they arrive to the Bodi King village and after the dance they are
measured by the elders who then decide who is the winner and the fattest. Ph: Wolberg , text -Pavel wolberg
