World Photography Organisation and Sony launch National Award to find best photographer from participating countriesAkira Murakami, Japan, Open Shortlist, Low Light, Sony World Photography Awards 2012

For the first time, the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards will include a National Award category which will uncover and honour the best single image from a participating country by an amateur photographer.  This special category offers an amazing opportunity for budding photographers to have their work seen globally and be recognised alongside the world’s leading photographers.

One single winning image from each participating country will be chosen from the 10 Open categories.   The winning photographers will receive a range of grand prizes, from the latest Sony digital imaging equipment to a trip to London to take part in the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards Gala Ceremony.  All winning images will be exhibited at World Photo London, a month -long celebration of photography and the moving image held in the UK  in April 2013 and on the World Photography Organisation website.

The competition will close on 4 January 2013.  Entries will be firstly judged by WPO's pre-selection committee and a winner will be decided by special local judging panels including Astrid Merget, Creative Director of the World Photography Organisation.

The winning photographers will be announced on 19 March 2013.

The participating countries are listed in the menu on the right, click to find out more.
